It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. I get to Magic at 8:00 for the 20-30 inches of fresh Pow. My first run I got first tracks on Betwixit to Up Your Sleeve and Vertigo. I knew all the other hounds would be heading for the double blacks leaving lots of freshies on the ungroomed intermediate runs. Very little grooming had been done. My second run I poached Sorcorer. Third tracks in knee deep joy. My third run would be a few hours later because the old Red Line decided to break down today. My chair was dangling 40 feet over the very top cliff of Red Line just above where Witch crosses Red Line. Jumping was not an option for me but all around me people were jumping into the 30 fresh inches of Pow. Back injury two chairs behind me. A father and her daughter. He jumped first and talked her into it. She went up to her chest in snow when she landed and started screaming in pain. It must have been a thirty foot drop. There was a stiff wind rolling up the Red Line and my body started to shake from the
cold. Mild hypothermia was setting in. The tips of all extremities were starting to numb. Finally after about two hours the ski patrol comes walking down the Red Line cliffs. It was emergency evacuation time. It took a bit to get me off the chair taking that leap of faith. I skied down Witch to Lucifer but my legs were so sore from the Red Line chair. That was it. They refunded everybody's money. They never opened the Black Chair for what ever reason. All that fresh Pow and no way to get to it unless you hike.

Bumma....reminds me of the time I jumped at
Berkshire East...after 30 minutes with no sign of
the Patrol, it was worth the leap.

With Magic's history..they should've stayed closed
