After the previous big day I expected stamina to be way down Sunday. So I started out with Andrew. Here he is on the first run on Broadway.

Sunday morning had the thin overcast like Saturday afternoon, though without wind. The softening process was about an hour slower. We took Gold Rush over to the southeast exposed area by 9:30, and we had to go down to Eagle for the snow to be corn that early. We split just after 10, when the areas around chairs 9 and 25 were hitting their corn peaks. Here's chair 9.

Unusually, they had groomed a line from the top on skier's right, which attracted quite a few of us. While riding 9, there's a good view of the groomed and ungroomed corn available from chair 25.

Andrew spent a lot of time on these chairs both days. On a board he likes the snow a bit farther along in the softening process than I do. Today was the last day this sector of the mountain was open, causing a bit of grumbling from spoiled skiers on the Mammoth Forum. :-({|=

I went in for an early lunch at Main Lodge. One of the indicators for a July 4th closing is when you can walk onto the 3rd floor sundeck.

You can see it's close this year, as they moved some snow in to allow that access.

After lunch I took a few runs up top, Drop Out 2, Wipe Out and the Hump. Quite a few people here on the smooth snow under the Drop Outs.

This skier is still spraying lots of dry snow on Wipe Out Sunday afternoon.

For my last run I went up the gondola to Heuvos Grande. The top entrance is constricted with irregular snow so I showed discretion and came around to the lower entrance. The snow was smooth but a bit firmer than most of the top runs. View of Heuvos and Dave's from below.

The clouds thinned out and with no wind the snow by 2PM was heavier than Saturday in some areas. But I was skiing groomers on the race course runs which were still in fine form. We left by 2:30. I skied 23,600, a higher proportion on groomers than usual due to the big previous day. I was stopping 2-3 times on the upper runs vs. nearly always only once on Saturday.

I'm headed up this weekend and read on the Mammoth Forums that Chair 9 is going to run 9-noon, hear anything similar? Also, being a early/late season skier at Mammoth I've never been up Chair 9. With Canyon/Eagle closed is it possible to ski from 9 down to say chair 3 or 5 or to the Mill?

On Mammoth Forum I reviewed my records for historical lift operation in May: http://forums.mammothmountain.com/viewt ... 3&start=45

9 is accessible from the top via Dave's Run or from chair 5. From the top of 9 you can ski to the Mill. Chair 2 makes the top to Dave's and nearly all of chair 5's terrain accessible even if no lifts are running on that side of the mountain.

Chairs 5, 9 and 10 are running today, so I would be very surprised if they are not open this weekend.

It also appears bus routes will run to Canyon and Eagle until April 26. This should make all terrain available to people without a car shuttle, but it's going to be a long trip back to the Mill or Main Lodge.

That's ridiculous. No wonder I lurk in the Eastern forum and don't venture here to much. :bs:

Tony, did you see patroller Dr. Basia Gorecka? She was at Mammoth too with her fiancee! She called on the way back, stated she skied her heart out because I gave her the suggestion you provided of a 3 pack at COSTCO! She let her MVP go a few years back. Perhaps she can get in this month! Said she never had a better time or conditions. All ready to fix up their second house on the hill in San Diego! She thanks you for your COSTCO suggestion of the 3 pack!

Thanks, Carol =D>
