For you easterners who must live through a mud season between winter and summer recreation, Patrick and I can show you how you can enjoy both on the same trip in the Sierra late spring. I have done these combination trips in 1981, 1986, 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1996 as well as last weekend. Mammoth and Yosemite Valley are normally 2 hours apart via Tioga Pass, but in big snow years Tioga Pass may not open until July. Thus we did not ski Sunday and took most of the day driving via Sonora Pass.
