Brrrrr......

-31C at 10am (or -24F, take your pick) on Monday the 28th basically kept the mtn shut. Only the beginner t-bar was open which I actually did for a few laps just to do something as I didn't really have much of any other plans or things to do back at the hotel anyway.

Today was much improved and at least there was an inversion going on with the top of the mtn approaching roughly zero F. There were barely a handful of folks out on the hill prior to noon. It was like having your own private ski area. "Fresh tracks" in the couple of 2-3 inches of snow from Monday covered everything making for nicely smooth turns. Much of the steeper stuff hardly had any (if any) tracks even by the time I left. Some decent and certainly fun terrain here though not much that is too crazy. A few very short cliff bands keep things interesting in spots though. A couple of HSQ's and a few older lifts in the mix with another new HSQ (and re-purposed triple) already publicized as coming next season. The sun even made attempts to come out though a stubborn haziness/flurries were around for most of the day. Had to get off the mtn early for the 3 hr spectacular drive down the icefields highway to Lake Louise for tomorrow. Very relaxed and fun time on the hill today.

WOW!!!

I wasn't expecting a TR from Marmot Basin by EMSC.

That drive between Lake Louise and Jasper is one of the most spectacular I've ever done.

BTW, I was told by locals that it's not always that cold in Jasper. It was -31c when we skied there late March 2002. We did 3 days at Marmot, 1 at Louise, 1 at Sunshine, 1 at Norquay and 1 at Fortress before getting on the overnight back East.

Looking forward for the rest of the TRs (wouldn't mind if you skip Sunshine  ).

NASJA annual meeting was in Banff in late March 2002, gradually colder each day. I did not ski the closing Sunday when it was -25C. I was luckier with the weather when I skied Marmot and drove the Columbia Icefields Parkway in February 2007: viewtopic.php?t=2811

Marmot is usually the coldest area in the BC/AB Rockies Group. It is not the place to be if you a have a fear of open spaces or lack of people. The drive south is truly spectacular, I hope you took some pictures of the Columbia Ice Fields...it has been a few years since my group has been there and it would be interesting to see just how much shrinkage has taken place due to the Al Gore effect

I'm told ~28F would be a normal high in the town of Jasper this time of year.

Some good pics but not too many of the ice fields. It was mostly cloudy/foggy on the west side mtns on the highway and got progresivly foggier overall the further south we went. Still super spectacular though.

Marmot looks nice.

Is this the trains, planes, and automobiles whirlwind visit?

It is nice... big enough to explore for a bit, though not huge, some good steeps though not too crazy.... easy to get around the hill, etc...

Let's see... planes, Via Rail train from Edmonton to Jasper, a couple of taxi's in there, a rental car, eventually supposedly some snowshoeing... um... Yep, whirlwind of 5 resorts eventually.
