I took advantage of yesterday's powder heaven at the Snow Bowl, and I'm awfully glad I did. Many of the upper reaches of trails were windblown down to boilerplate, but there was plenty of powder to be had elsewhere, and a sumptuous feast it was. Best of all, I discovered a new glade that has been recently thinned, and oh man, what a glade it is. Wide open hardwoods, steep but not too steep pitch, few powderhounds in attendance, and yes, wonderful powder.

Today saw beautiful soft bumps on Youngman and Ross, as nice bumps as I've ever seen at the Snow Bowl, which is not known for bumps. The powder, of course, was still in the trees.

My daugher said "Hey Dad, let's go check out the back side," and little did I know that the high point of this great weekend was still to come. We rocketed down Youngman twice, and I marveled at the smooth grace that she shows on skis, which I can only aspire to. We decided to end the day with an exploration of the glades off of Proctor, a meandering intermediate cruiser. After a fun time through the too-short "official" Proctor Glade (by now thoroughly tracked but still soft, puffy, and fun), we zipped over to the "unofficial" Proctor Glade, an easy, low-gradient hillside through open hardwoods. It was here I got to see the powder bug start to work its magic on a new victim. We coasted together through the untracked bottomless powder, slowly, silently past the big maples, floating on the wings of sparkling snowflakes. It was over way too soon, but she was sporting a very big smile and a glint in her eyes that spoke of many adventures to come. It was a short, but truly memorable powder run.

This was a Really Good Weekend.
