Sutton is more homey, Orford is more flashy. Orford offers easier direct Autoroute access from Montréal, which I suspect adds to the day-skier ratio. Sutton's "glades" are wide-open, while Orford's are tighter and more traditional eastern tree skiing. Sutton is nicely laid out for a family, as it gets progressively tougher as you move from west to east. Neither one has a single base, often a consideration for skiing families.

Orford certainly "skis" bigger, but Sutton can be deceiving because it's spread out along a long ridgeline. If your franco-phobic, you'll find more English spoken at Sutton. Orford's ski town of Magog offers more in the alternative department than does Sutton. Sutton is more protected and sheltered from wind and generally nasty weather.

So, it's a toss-up, but each has its own unique characteristics. I suspect that our recent story on Orford sparked this inquiry, but you can find stories on Sutton available here as well via http://www.FirstTracksOnline.com/qcski.htm.

Have fun, and let us know how it turns out for you!

I would definetly choose Sutton over Orford. Sutton receives more snow and has considerably more expert terrain and lifts for serious skiers. At the other end Sutton has a good deal of easy stuff too. #1west,#1,#2west and #3 chairs all serve beginner terrain with few crowds because they are out of the way. Orford is more spread out, with slightly longer runs from the top. The scenery is quite spectacular at both mountains. If you are deciding on a place to stay, Sutton is a short hop from Vermont and many ski areas down there. (Jay 30mins., Stowe 60mins., Smugglers 45 mins.)
