Here's a question for you more experienced folk. This will be my first season out west and I'm trying to decide where to spend my spring break. Yes, that incredibly busy week when everyones going to be hitting the slopes that I usually avoid at all costs. I live in Denver. So you saw the topic, where should I go? I enjoy riding in the woods the most, but I am a snowboarder and hit the park most days as well. I'm also relatively tight on cash...

I'm thinking Montana b/c I almost moved there, and I have a friend in Bozeman. I'm thinking Utah because it'd be closer (I think), and I went to Moab for mountianbiking in the summer and the place blew my mind. The 10+ hours to montana is about as much as I could stand, I think. I grew up in New England so I'm not really concerned about the cold or wind, I just want the best snow and gladed terrain I can get.

Your buddy has one of my all-time favorite places right in his backyard: Bridger Bowl. Utah, though...Ooootah. If you do the latter, be sure to venture off the beaten path to Powder Mt., etc.

Hey, what ever happened to your photos from Loveland Pass?

I just want the best snow and gladed terrain I can get.

Moonlight Basin has plenty of that. a very lot of thier new terrain is gladed. yes, a very lot.

but I am a snowboarder and hit the park most days as well.

word is Big Sky's park is suppossed to be MUCH better this year.......in case you've heard how there park is previously. keep an eye out for reports here. i'll try to get some pics up at some point. also, you won't run into crowds at big sky. that's a given. even during spring break. you into contests? the big contest going on March 12-13 is the Thrash and Bash at big sky. slopestyle, bx(you don't want to race me.), and halfpipe. MSU's spring break is the previous week. i went down to Breck a couple years ago for that week, and as i was leaving town it was storming. i missed out on 18" of fresh here. last year i was in Cooke City, and i don't remember what the weather was doing around here then. it could go either way, but atleast the park (like they're saying) will be good.

i'll show you a big backcountry booter to session if you sport me a twelver.

Utah wouldn't be a bad option either. they will more than likely have a much better base.......if preseason is any indicator, and history.

where's your buddy ride? bridger or big sky? or moonlight? bridger would be fun too, as long as you have someone who know's the ridge and can show you around.......and you don't mind slow lifts........and hiking.........and riding bumps when you come down off the ridge terrain. haha. if it dumps, you'll be very pleased.

Not everybody has the same week for spring break, so crowds are not that bad and nothing compared to Christmas-to-New-Years.

I don't think this is a close decision at all. Cottonwood Canyons have way better late season conditions (more new snow and north exposure) than Bridger/Big Sky. As far as price is concerned, all 4 Cottonwood areas have lift tickets under $50 (for Snowbird you need to get them at a Smith's supermarket). And there's plenty of dirt cheap lodging in SLC.

Stay away from the Park City group: late season slush and more expensive tickets.

It is always cheaper if you can stay with a friend and buy the beer and some food for the house, rather than to find cheap lodging.

I too am on a tight budget this year, so my ski trips are going to be limited to where I have friends that I can stay with.

That time of year, the skiing is usually great wherever you go. Utah is always a good bet for snow/powder/weather, though I've heard Montana can be pretty socked in at times.

In my experience, the snow and weather is usually better in the place where you didn't go (right Marc?).
