We took the short 15 minute drive to Montgenevre. The day was quite disjointed as Kylie had boot trouble so I started without her while she went to buy new inner soles.
Conditions were once again very firm. I got the impression that the hill is generally of a more gentle pitch than around the corner at Serre Chevalier. There are big areas of wide groomed runs.
We went across to the Italian side to Claviere and noticed a distinct difference in snow cover. While Montgenevre had very good cover Claviere was sparse in places. I’m guessing the storms that reach Serre Chevalier and Montgenevre from the west don’t get across the alpine divide to Italy? Also of note was there is a number of old slow fixed grip chairs on the Italian side.
The clear skies meant the day was again perfect for lunch on a sunny terrace. Just a few pics.
^ Lots of that kind of terrain. The Gondrans sector of the resort has plenty of undulating ‘roller’ type groomers. I don’t know if Montgenevre has a reputation as a family resort but if not it probably should have.
We went up to the old town late yesterday. It’s a UNESCO heritage site. Impressive old fortification and stone buildings. We had a superb dinner at a Michelin restaurant. Fantastic value at 49 Euro for 3 courses. How good are truffles?
^ The restaurants and bars are in the original old buildings with the low stone ceilings. Lucky I’m vertically challenged.
