bluebird. 30's in the mtns. 50's in town. (teens in evening) spring temps for sure.
groomers rode well and no rocks or dirt spots showing. the Headwaters
were pretty chopped up, but being a north facing aspect the snow has
been well preserved up there.......as long as you don't mind riding
chopped up pow. got 3 hikes in. Three Forks 1 rode well, then jumped
over to Whitetail. that was good too, but bottlenecked into some firm.
Firehole for the next two hikes. great snow up high, then about the
bottom 1/3rd is a chute. kinda firm. after about 2:30-3:00 there was some boiler plate
showing up on the groomers. the light becomes rather flat around this
time at Moonlight too......and the temp drops. kind of a drag after having
sun all day. oh well, it's the end of the day and you've gotten your fix anyways.
the snow was riding like winter conditions. the "fresh" was chopped, but
still riding well.
people who grew up with tons of snow are upset about the lack of pow.
it's either perfect, or not. you can please these people. the
eastern transplants are just fine with whats here. so what if it's
chopped up, it's still fresh pow. the bottlenecks in the chutes on the
Headwaters are firm and chopped up, but it's just a short little section
anyways. no bombing out of the chutes anytime soon......
unless you have a death wish.
we could use some fresh around here though. another week of dryness
will be pushing it. time to sharpen the edges.
