Mt Bachelor 10/5/07 Not to be outdone...

I too was overcome with the ski "Joneses" and grabbed my classic skis and headed up. My training buddy Paul is undergoing chemotherapy so I didn't suggest we hike the cone with our alpine stuff. I'm always leary this early in the season as the turns to injury ratios aren't good with A-A lava bombs lurking just under the surface. We were surprised at the good coverage for so early.
I have to admit I kept gazing over at the cinder cone (which has a very smooth bed surface and a perfect 38 degree pitch) that was quite tracked out by mid-day on Friday. The nordic skiing on Dutchman Flat is doable early as it's a pumice flat right at the 6300 foot level adjacent to the base of the Bachelor ski area.

Hats off, especially to Paul (no pun intended). That's impressive given the challenges that he's facing!

Looks good!

However, I have been unlucky with early season turns and injuries. Too many broken bones.
