Sorry I can't give a first hand report on what happened up at Mt Bachelor today...I had to work! It was the last day of the week/year and I'm in the title biz, so there were a lot of checks to go out after a busy year.
I did get to ride yesterday on 4" overnight that fell on some fairly deep wet powder from the days before. The rarely clear top of NW lift was, well...clear! Good freshies on the upper 1/3, not bad on the middle third into still good but trickier lower down (below 6000'). It was an fair to average Bachelor powder day and then I left at 10:30 as the holiday folks had arrived and it got more busy.
Then Big Daddy came in. What a freakin' mess in town. It's been raining/wet snowing in Bend for weeks and then this huge lumbering storm came in and killed us. All the underpasses were closed, seemingly every intersection flooded under a barrage of sleet and rain that just kept intensifying. We definately had the jet overhead. One of my rentals had water 4' deep in the basement shorting out their furnace and water heater.
Luckily we got the last sump pump at Home Depot. Tons of NYE traffic gridlocked the whole town with all the standing water, drowned cars and deep slush pools. I'm glad I kicked in big for the Katrina fundraisers as Karma would have kicked my ass even harder today if I hadn't!!!! The only thing that could be worse is that it clears and goes to -10' tonight.
That won't happen because tomorrow will be snowing (it will snow for at least another 5 days) and be awesome. Snow levels are dropping and it looks like a winner tomorrow. I'll hopefully give you guys a report.
Oh yeah, today 13" new as of 11 AM this morning according to the report and still snowing HARD. I didn't get to go.
It's still raining outside.
