Mt Bachelor: Hot and Glassy!

Saturday was the day as the bluebird came for a visit. Lots of other folks came as well as we've suffered through some very stormy weather as of late. We all had the same thing in mind, go ride in the warm, calm conditions.
This past week the climatology shifted and we started to get more of a normal, blue collar pattern with the storms coming in from the mid-Pacific. The snow levels go up, it's windier and we get some mixed precipitation. But despite all that, we still had good snow all week but got a freezing mist Friday afternoon that lightly coated a 6" top layer of honey butter. It turned out to be not totally unpleasant!

My girlfriend and I rode Bachelor on Thursday and had an amazing time. We originally had reservations @ Seventh Mountain for the weekend, but moved them to midweek when we saw the forecast for powder.

I was hoping to check out NWX and Outback but the wind was too strong. I was worried that the rest of the mountain wouldn't be challenging enough but I was wrong. The quality of the snow and the fact that we had the entire mountain to ourselves more than made up for it. The attitude of the locals on Bachelor is what impressed us the most, you guys rock! Always willing to point us in the right direction or make sure we were having a great time...wow. Totally opposite of what we are used to(passholders @Mt. Hood Meadows).

We woke up on Thursday to 6" of fresh, with another 4" falling while we rode. The combination of zero crowd, light snow, and steady 10-20mph wind was perfect. All the tracks kept filling in and we had freshies until the lifts closed at 4pm. We were the last ones off the hill and we wanted more!

Hey Uff da!,

Thanks for the backup photo's on Thursday. You picked a good day as the day before there was the dreaded freezing fog that rimes your goggles like crazy. On Thursday no one came, thinking it to be a repeat of the day before, but no! Plus the snow was that bouncy and consistant stuff where you can do no wrong.
Drop me a line the next time you're here and we'll go ride. How about those 200" bases at Mt Hood?
