Mt. Bachelor, OR 04/17/2005

This Sunday was the last day Bachelor is going to be completely open. Starting Monday they are running a very reduced lift schedule with limited terrain. That said, todays snow was awesome. We took a few runs out on Northwest and saw literally no one else. While the snowpack has been pretty bad all year, it is as good as it has ever been right now. They are reporting about 100 inch base. Its sad that most of the mountain won't be open anymore because there is so much snow left, and the snow that is there is awesome right now. Good packed power / powder on the upper half of the mountain and softer almost spring snow towards the bottom. As we were leaving today it was snowing pretty heavily at the base. The halfpipe and park are still in fairly good condition, I think they plan on moving their park over to somewhere that is more accessable off of the limited lifts they are operating. It's sad they are closing May 15th because I won't be able to get back up there before then.

Midwinter was definately the theme for today. People back on the east coast must be dying to see this stuff in mid april.

Thanks for the report, George. Nice to have someone new here from your neck of the woods...but "Oregon/New Hampshire," what exactly is your neck of the woods??

Im going to school at Oregon State University, but am from New Hampshire. So at least for the time being I don't know exactly what to consider myself, we'll find out in a few years.
