Mt Bachelor: Recovery Act 2011

It's been forever since I've visited the lift served side of Mt Bachelor. I've been busy skate skiing since the conditions for that variant have been excellent. You want firm snow and clear skies and that's what we have had in spades since the snow machine turned off in early January.
Yesterday I spent 1:55 on the nordic trails doing my weekly LSD (long slow distance) workout. I did really well in last week's Boulder Mountain Tour in Sun Valley (sorry no TR) so I'm pumped and getting ready for next month's Master's World Cup 2011 in Silver Star, BC. Any of you guys been there?
Just after noon I donned my alpine gear and walked across the parking lot to Pine Martin and went on up. Yesterday was sunny but quite windy and the SW direction was blowing in some sift from the 1" we had a few days ago. It made for killer groomers with just enough soft to mask the firm base and make for very carveable surfaces. I used my mid fat Nordica Hot Rods (126-84-112). Good times.
This morning they reported 3" with a freezing mist and fog. Totally heinous report but I am so jonesing to ride some soft on my snowboard so I packed up and went. Thick soupy fog all the way up to the Sunriver turnoff and then the sun broke through and now I'm in fat city. Nobody in the parking lot, first chair and sunny on a Sunday morning and my decision looks sound. Last night it blew over 90 mph on Summit so I'm expecting major redistribution of the meager snowfall. But it was dense, covered by a zipper crust, just what the doctor ordered to heal things up ahead of this week's expected snowfall. And it covered the hill pretty much wall-to-wall with a smooth finish. Good to go!

I had a day at Silver Star in February 1999, probably a record snow year. Backside of Silver Star reminded me of Telluride's chair 9.
