Baldy was quite nice today after braving the some weather and some waiting. The faithful were finally able to sample the 2+ feet off fresh stuff. We arrived early and the key move of the day was getting in the tix line early as it eventually snaked all the way down to the P LOT. (thanx T) we got our pass @ 900 and we rode up as the patrol were doing their analysis. We hooked round to the patrol hut and got our ambiguous answers to when/if we could go down. One patrol says he's doing one more cut .... then 2 min later another says sayonara have a nice run and its off to the races.. weeee! heres some of Morgans/ Bentleys

then by the second lap the sun would make a cameo appearance

we eventually got over to Thunder and enjoyed a few there and a couple in the South Bowl
and then the weather started to get a bit dicey and we decided our tired legs had enough so we were done by 1:30 .
when we bailed there were no sighs of life over @ chair 4 so those who can get there tomorrow should hopefully have something to look forward to .

all in all it was a very nice day

FYI, whoever is hosting your photos doesn't allow hotlinking, thus they're not visible to folks here (you can probably see them because they're in your browser's cache, but we can't).

Sick photos, I'm so, so jealous after yesterday's fiasco. Those were supposed to be MY runs down Bentley's!!!

Glad you had a good time.

I viewed these pics by quoting the OP and then copy/pasting the URL of each pic individually into another browser window.

That's of course one method, as it's directly accessed via the browser's address bar. Another method would be to upload them here. I brought it up only because K2VLAD is likely unaware that we can't see them in the post.

For sure. Just in case the OP doesn't get around to doing that, just wanted to let people know there was a roundabout way to view them as well.

K2VLAD, How did you get such large (in size and in pixel count)pictures to appear on this site? Nice pics. I was up there today, too, but my alarm didn't go off this morning and I got caught in the ticket line, then the Chair 1 liftline. Got some nice runs on Thunder, though.

External links. Photos uploaded here (as opposed to those that are externally linked) are automatically resized for display, but can be up to 1024x768. If they get resized down for display, clicking on the displayed image will open the full-size version. Example:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7692

after Admin slapped me with the newbiestik i rehosted the pix and i inadvertantly resized them to 1024x768. I hope thats ok as the quality seems to hold up, aside from the pink hue from a foggy lens.

Today was a very good day at Baldy for sure. We also managed to get into the ticket line pretty early and got two laps on Bentley's etc before the line started stacking up at 1 and we bailed to wait for Thunder. Chair 4 never opened today so anyone heading up Wednesday has something to look forward to.

The powder window down here is probably closed for awhile. Temps are returning to normal, so anything with sun exposure will be spring conditions by the weekend. But I'll still hit Baldy at least one day of it, as everything there should be well covered for a few more weeks. Anyone coming to L.A. for business in the next month or so should bring their skis. We'll need more snow for good natural terrain skiing past then. Current 3-6 foot bases are still well below what we had in 1998, 2001 and 2005. Average snowfall so far (by area, rule of thumb is to add 1/3 for Baldy/Waterman, subtract 1/3 for Big Bear) is 132 inches, which is normal for the entire season here. But the best years are 300+ at Baldy/Waterman.

With the warmup I would not expect powder at Mt. Waterman this Saturday like last. It will probably be heavy and very fat powder-specific skis will be needed for most people to handle it. I may return to Waterman this season, but if so for spring corn.

I heard the smog was thicker
SLC has more winter smog than we do. Ours is mostly summer/fall. Visibility in SLC over MLK weekend was bad even by L.A. standards now, though nothing like we had from the 50's through the 70's.

man you're killing me tony......i was thinking the EXACT same thing as you.......the powder window is definitely closing here. i sat at work looking at the baldy cam today. i'm going up to big bear on saturday and just carve some groomers and look for some moguls???

then hit up mammoth next w/e (actuall this weekend should be really good, but obligations restrict me from taking the trip up there)

and i agree.......we've had good snowfall recently......but not all time .....definitely not all time. skiing into may at baldy (was it 01???) with a massive base even after closing.......
