well, hit Baldy yesterday..didn't get up the hill til 1 p.m...
conditions were pretty good overall..it was very windy, but all lifts were open. Temps mainly in the low 40's up top..the sun did its job softening up things, especially off chair 4. The snow was superbuttery, and not too wet. Not exactly corn, but it was definitely a relative. Coverage is still very good off 4, but I would say 2-3 more weeks tops on that side unless it stays pretty cold.
Chair 3 runs, including the South Bowl were a bit more variable.. more sun exposed areas were obviously softer, but with less direct exposure, it was definitely firmer even IN the sun. Shaded areas were consistently firm, if not icy. I only took a few turns over into South bowl and then cut back over..seemed too firm for my comfort, but i did notice some skiiers on the next ridge over that looked to be making some good turns.
Around 3:30 the mid and high clouds covred the sun and the temps dropped into the upper 30's. The snow almost instantly got harder, but it also started to really corn up. Only got a couple more runs in at that point, and rode down ch 1 with a face full of wind.
The coverage on Thunder appears to be excellent...so if they can keep the snow pushed up near chair 3 base, I could see them going well into May.
BTW, very few people as would be expected...only very top lot almost full at 1p.m.
PS..the "parking lot runs" had good coveage up top, but bare from about 1/2 to 3/4 the way down.. a few people were riding and then walking the rest of the way, but hoenstly, it didn't look worth it, or very safe, hiking down such a steep slope with all the talus and loose soil. Saw a coupel guys almost fall several times scrambling down..
