Sorry for the late report and apologies for the fact that I left my camera in the car........so no pics.
Got a bit of a late start from Claremont. Drove up the switchbacks no problem, but, for the life of me, could not get up the last 1/2 mile to the parking lot! (2WD truck...) Hitched a ride, and got to parking lot at 8:15 (very late for me). Cars were already down to the second parking lot. Hour wait to get a ticket. (Welcome to Baldy.) Probably the most crowded I have EVER seen Baldy in 15 years of skiing there. No joke. I think most people thought (as I did): it will storm on Saturday, then bluebird on Sunday. No folks, it was the opposite way! (My buddies skiied Saturday and were the first ones down Thunder and said it was incredible.)
Anyways, the runs down the parking lot looked pretty good, not too skiied over.
Got to the top, hit up Thunder (waits were averaging 10-15 minutes on Thunder). Did a couple runs, then skiied South Bowl (which was still not cut up -- still some GREAT untracked lines) -- although traversing over the lift, I do believe I took a nice chunk out of my new Volkl AC40's.......SWEET! Here comes the ptex....
Got word Chair #4 was opening....so waited in line, got first tracks for 2 two three runs (just below the chairlift ) before the line started building up. Saw some buddies who were hitting up a run called "Erik's?" -- never heard of it myself -- it's past Holcumac, I guess and they said it was two feet fresh....and really, really good. I had to meet some other buddies for lunch, so had to pass on Erik's.
Skiied Thunder a few more times, and due to family obligations, cut out at 2 pm.
Visibility got worse throughout the day, and the sun came out for like 2 minutes.
This was a really good last storm for us, will definitely add 2 to 3 foot very much needed base.
Snow wasn't epic, it was good to very good. Not the driest, but still very fun. I'm sore today!
Back to the grind, folks. For those who can hit it up Tuesday, I'm envious........
Cheers .
