Snow.

Won't bore anyone with the details other than say that while the skiing was very good in the morning, in the afternoon it was getting wind scoured. The lift rides were the worst. Not much running and not running at full speed either... ouch.

We decided against taking the summit lift. This decision (we are not young masochists, but older wussses) limited us quite a bit terrain wise. After lunch we found ourselves us riding the lift with visions of hot tub, fireplace and something more pleasant than the now tortuous rides up and skiing the newly wind scoured Mctrails. This was a day to wish you were a woods skier. A day to wish you were at perhaps Stowe or Sugarbush where the trails are narrow and wind protected.

First day out mission accomplished. Very pleasant apres ski hot tub and fireplace at lodge. Today (Friday) the winds and temps were even worse!! Forget it. Save the money for another trip.

The way we see it, it can only get better!! What a way to start our season though, great snow, terrible weather situation, wrong mountain for the conditions. Aside from the misery factor riding up, it was some of the nicest first day skiing we've had -- and also some of the latest first day skiing. Perhaps the weather pattern is becoming more "normal" now?
