Mt. Snow, VT 2/28/00

Due to our move to new servers, the date and time attributed to this post is incorrect.)</I> <BR> <BR>What a difference a week makes! <BR> <BR>For anybody planning to visit southern Vermont in the near-term -- don't bother. We did a quick trip up Sunday to ski Monday (we did NOT ski) and to have an anniversary getaway -- that part was just fine. <BR> <BR>The mountain on late Sunday afternoon was pretty sad looking and forecast for rain on Sunday night which did arrive as scheduled was the last blow -- Even the main snowmaking trails had HUGE dirt areas and large puddle zones on them with fog covering the summit. The non snowmaking trails looked like the dregs of early May, not late February. The whole mountain looked like late April in a bad snow year. Last April 11th at Stowe was mid-season by comparison - speaking in snow base terms. The snow flurries as we left didn't change our minds though. <BR> <BR>On the non-skiing side, avoid Snow Lake Lodge -- it is a ripoff for the badly in need of help rooms, and the location and mountain views from the hot tub and rooms don't make up for that. Unfortunately the place we wanted to stay at was fully booked for Sunday night. On the other hand we can heartily recommend dining at the Doveberry Inn's restaurant (special occasion prices) -- it was super! <BR> <BR>Once we made the decision to save my mE ticket money for Sugarbush in March (Bruce has an ASC All East K-pass) -- and bagged Mt. Snowless, we headed to Bennington to breakfast at the Blue Ben Diner in town. Quite the place for endless breakfast choices (breakfast served all day BTW) -- not for those on diets however....Classic diner in every way - well worth a visit for that old-time diner feeling! <BR> <BR>Now -- will the weather geeks please keep us posted on coming events -- we just moved our visit to Stowe to a week later in hopes things improve in 2 weeks time -- some good old March snows!!
