The AM ski report was reading 40 inches plus...I would have to say that was pretty accurate! A ton of snow, but it was pretty heavy. The only place I have ever seen this large a storm in the east was at Jay. First tracks on Flying Goose has humbling but fun. The only problem with Sunapee is that it isn't steep enough to enjoy all the powder. 75% of the terrain was untouched because it wasn't groomed and not steep enough to ski. Really...I was skiing first tracks on Flying goose (as steep as it gets at Sunapee) powder up to my waist and not going anywhere. Given that fact...I wasn't impressed with the grooming effort. Only 2 trails plus the beginner area were groomed at opening. They groomed a cat path on the rest of the terrain at about 11:00 am. Skiing will be great for awhile. Today was one to remember, just for the sake of riding the lift and looking longingly at the untouched 40 inches of snow on all of the intermediate terrain that was too flat to be poached.
