It was 70 degrees at 8:45AM in the Pinkham parking lot, with gusty winds - high enough to blow away the black flies, most of the time. The high summits of the Presidential Range were in the clouds, but the valleys and lower 4000 foot peaks like the Wildcat ridge were mostly sunny. After noon, the cloud ceiling lifted slightly; more breaks in the clouds occasionally revealed the Summit and bathed the Bowl in sunlight, before the next black cloud raced over the ridgeline.

I talked to a couple guys who skied Hillmans Friday. They said you have to take your skis off at one point 2/3 of the way down, but the top was nice.

The Left Gully was the best run to be had. It was pretty nice corn. The sun and rain had flattened it out... too bad, I like it when it gets bumped up. The last 100 feet at the top right was steep, but soft enough. Left Gully still has a pretty solid connection to the rest of the snow in the Bowl, which should last at least another week.

The Chute was good from about halfway down, but several skiers and riders went up to the ridge above and skied the whole thing, with a little sidestepping halfway down.

I saw two or three who hiked up to the ridge above, and threaded their way down a nasty line between rocks on the center wall. At least one was on tele gear, and made a great run of it, jumping a couple small crevasses further down.

The Lip, and everything under the Lip, is completely fractured into multiple crevasses, with some beautiful waterfalls. One lone MWVSP, Paul Kling, warned all hikers and skiers to avoid that whole area.

There is still a good runout. It's never too late to learn to ski. One young woman appeared to be getting a telemark lessons on the runout, on gear borrowed from a friend.

Cool, very cool. Glad to see someone out there is STILL carrying The Torch. My season is over due to commitments, unless somehow I get an outside chance.

Thanks for the pics! Tucks is doing pretty good for a warm winter thanks to the cool spring.
