Going to Mt. Washington next weekend. How do I get to the snowfields? Can I drive up the auto road to get there? Will there still be a few turns to be had next weekend? How steep is it? Thanks for any help!

Hopefully this link will work:
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/gregskitrees/lst?.dir=/Mt.+Washington/Snowfields+6-10-02&.order=&.view=l&.src=bc&.done=http%3a//briefcase.yahoo.com/

If not, go here:
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/gregskitrees
Then click "mount washington", then "snowfields 6-10-02"

Those are pics from a little less than 2 weeks ago, the snow patches now will be ...smaller. To get to the east snowfields that people usually ski, drive up the road(or hike), but park your car at the lots up top, then hike down the road a little ways(several hundred feet). If you look down off to your left, you should see decently big areas of snow, and maybe some people skiing on them. There's no designated trail to get there. I usually walk to to a dirt pull-offa little farther down, where theres usually 1 or 2 cars parked, and hike over from there. Be gentle to the grass and lichen, try to keep on the rocks. It's $16 to get up the road. I'll be up there again this weekend...trying to find some snow

Thanks for the PIC's. I was originally planning to ski the snowfields back on June 9, and it looked like it would have been a good day. I did not ski yesterday due to the Summit was socked in the fog. This is only the third day that I did not ski this year due to weather. Not too bad considering all the complaining I have heard from people on how there was no snow. I skied every week from November 6, which was opening day at Killington, to June 2, which was the day after Killington closed ( Hiked and skied every patch of snow on Superstar).I am hoping to ski up there on Sunday, weather permitting. The Jackson Cam shows that there is still a a pretty good size area or patch of snow below the summit. Thanks again for the pics.

I was up there this weekend again. Saturday's hike up was wet. It cleared in the evening. Sunday was all fog too. Had a crazy thunderstorm that night. Monday was finally a nice day ...aside from the wind. I skied a chute in the great gulf. It was nice soft snow, about 15 turns long. Then I headed down the other side and got pics of the east snowfield and tucks. Here they are:
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/gregskitrees
click mt washington, then 6-23-02

Thanks for the PICs Greg. Everything still looks worth skiing, especially the snowfields, especially since you can drive up there. In the PIC of Tucks, is that Hillman's still covered in snow up the left side? I will be skiing the Snowfields on Monday, then Hillman's or the Bowl on Tuesday. Looks like good conditions for summer skiing.
