While Bobby Danger was hiking Little Cottonwood Canyon yesterday, Amy and I took our respective dogs up Mill Creek Canyon to do the same. It was time to wear off some of Jake's energy and unlike the Cottonwoods, Mill Creek Canyon is open to dogs who are allowed off-leash on odd numbered days when mountain bikers are forbidden from the upper canyon trails. For those unfamiliar, Mill Creek Canyon runs parallel to and sits in between Big Cottonwood Canyon and Parley's Canyon.

It was a beautiful autumn hike, but until I replace the camera damaged on our river trip I'm forced to resort to my cell phone for taking pictures. Although the aspens are ablaze down low, below about 7,800 feet, the leaves are largely off the trees higher up. The trail was a zoo, with everyone bringing their dogs out for Sunday and as one of the few swimmable bodies of water in the canyon, Dog Lake is a popular destination. It's also very close to Salt Lake City, adding to the congestion (the lake sits about 8 miles from my house on the edge of the Salt Lake Valley).

Leaving the lake I wanted to get away from the masses so after descending halfway we struck eastward on the Great Western Trail, then decided to continue ascending to the Park City Ridgeline where we stopped overlooking Canyons Resort.

By the time we got back to the car I'm guessing it was about 9 miles on an up/down/up/down route...enough to wear out my puppy! At least until today.

beautiful pictures admin , looks like as beautiful a day as i had, a lot of people in the canyon yesterday leaf peeping . from the bottom to alta you had to keep the speed down and be very awear going around some of those blind corners that many people could be standing in the road or right next to it . one shouldn't be speeding in the canyon anyway- or in any of the canyons.
