Temperatures are in the mid-60s at Tahoe this weekend (and it was 90 on Sat. in my part of San Jose) and may not freeze at night. Next weekend is supposed to be cooler. I plan to be there since I have free Sugar Bowl tickets to use, plus a friend has big place lined up near Homewood to celebrate his 50th birthday. We also plan to get another day on our passes at Heavenly on Sunday and then go to Kirkwood on Monday where they are offering a free day to valid passholders from other resorts. I may also get to Squaw 5/3 and Heavenly for closing day on 5/4. Late in the season, combining North and South Shore on a trip gets easier as ski day is shorter, daylight is longer and roads/weather are not usually a problem.
Closed on or before 4/6 Badger Pass, Dodge Ridge, Homewood, Soda Springs
April 13 Boreal, Diamond Peak (NV), Mt. Shasta, Tahoe Donner
April 20 Mt. Rose (NV)
April 21 Sierra at Tahoe
April 27 Bear Valley (open Fri-Sun only after 4/13))
April 27 Northstar, Kirkwood, Sugar Bowl
May 4 Alpine Meadows, Heavenly
May 11Squaw Valley

Lake Tahoe-area ski resorts are winding down the season as higher temperatures melt the Sierra snowpack and lure people away from the slopes to other recreation.
Boreal and Diamond Peak plan to shut operations this weekend. Others hope to push the season to the end of April or possibly into May.
"We have awesome coverage, we're holding up really well," said Jennie Bartlett, marketing manager for Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, which is operating at 100 percent and is shooting for an April 27 end-of-season.
"It gets just warm enough to melt the snow pretty well during the day, and it freezes at night so that the snow is like popcorn seeds," she said. "It's been incredible."
Christine Horvath, marketing director for Squaw Valley USA, agreed, saying the resort still holds 100 inches of snow on its upper mountain.
