I went to Northstar as I was concerned wind from incoming storm would affect lifts at Palisades Tahoe/Alpine or Heavenly. So I stayed at friends house about 15 miles from Palisades Tahoe where I skied on Sat, and about 10 miles from Northstar. I arrived about 8:20 and had to park past E which I timed as an 8 minute walk from where I ended day on Home Run after 1 PM. It was a little longer walk to pulse gondola that I rode in morning. When leaving I saw some late arrivers had to park at Castle Peak.

I skied Tonini’s, Groomer’s choice of the day three times, twice early when it was still firm, including once from slow Redenzvous chair, which I rode since I had to make a call. Both Backside and Prosser, looker’s right of Lookout chair, had delayed openings probably because Northstar did not want their customers getting hurt on somewhat firm snow.

I moved to Lookout which I rode 5x starting about 10, twice taking Washoe as bumps on Boca were not inviting and Prosser was roped off.

Prosser eventually opened through a narrow gates with signage to try to discourage those who shouldn’t be there. Prosser had good corn about 10:30, but also had some thin/bare spots. Ungroomed, especially never groomed/off-piste is not recommended as it was not supportable and even these bumps that I tried once to avoid narrow path were getting hollow.

I moved to Backside before noon and took 5 laps there starting with groomed Burnout which was OK, but not great. Groomed Sierra Grande was better, especially on shaded left side although run was somewhat busy. I also tried ungroomed Follow Me where short steep bumped face was good although Challenger getting there had some bare spots.

Rail Splitter which may have been day-old groom was better. I exited Backside by skiing Tonini’s to get to Zephyr, then skiing Home Run, quitting about 1:15 with 27.4K.

Wind was not very strong even at top of Northstar and some of the E shore of Tahoe on my way to SLT was still glassy. I made it to sushi happy hour where roll price has gone up from $8 to $10 and selection is a little more limited, but 1/2 price beers still only $3.25. I also took lakefront hot tub where I saw Safari Rose (Mt Rose in background) leaving the dock afterwards.

No after ski beer?
I had my after ski beer (and bought a 12-pack of Mind Haze at Round Hill Safeway in NV), but I did not carry a can while skiing the last two days. Instead I had small bottles of water in pockets on each side along with a lot of snacks.
I guess the demo event was why you were at Tahoe on the weekend in these conditions?
I signed up for the demo event before Tahoe had 4 days of record heat. I was also hoping storm yesterday delivered as predicted a week out and was trying to stretch my trip to Sports Basement friend's birthday 4/5 when he plans to ski Mammoth. At my friend's house N of Truckee where I stayed Sat. night, it reached 68 that day. He returned late Fri. from a week in Cabo (mostly East Cape) where he said it was 79 and water was too cool to stay in without a wet suit. He's enjoying playing pickle ball at 8 AM every day instead of boarding at Northstar.

Even most East Coast resorts would have thrown in the towel on / closed those runs. Yikes.

I had a Northstar pass for 2 years in the early 2000s since it was only $220 for a student, so know it quite well. Most of my MBA class could afford that. But I'm surprised - given the type of skier it attracts - they would keep those areas open.
