Hi All!
Any suggestions regarding accom. in the Ogden area..purchased a flight to SLC and plan on hitting Powder Mtn/Snowbasin and take in some snowkiting in that area...have been to the Cottonwood area many times and know there is an abundance of places to stay..I will be renting a SUV for the week..so I don't need to be right at the hill..any info would be much appreciated.

Well, there is quite a choice in Ogden.

I've stayed in two places although recently I have just driven up from SLC when I am going to Powder Mtn, Wolf Mountain or Snowbasin.

A few years back I stayed for free in The Comfort Suites in Ogden which was a nice place. As a single travellor who wants to spend his money on other things rather than hotel rooms I usually look for the budget places and as such the Motel 6, Ogden has served me well. Its on the main drag to the mountains and at $40 a night is great value.

Just an FYI... if you're staying north of SLC and you want to call an audible to the Cottonwoods, the rush hour commutes in both directions will test your patience.

One time, I got a free hotel in Syracuse for several nights with the intention of skiing Snowbasin and when a storm dumped on BCC/LCC and left the two Ogden areas with scraps, I regretted not spending the $50 for a room in SLC.

my reason for staying north this year...is because I've been to the cottonwood area many times...and PowMow has some great snowkiting locations..I'm bringing my kite and board..if the mtn's lack fresh pow then the we will hope for wind!

Look into Valley Lodging:

That's for properties managed by Wolf Creek Resort, between Powder Mountain and Snowbasin at the base of the PowMow access road. Wolf Creek Resort is now a private club, but guests have access to club facilities, including an excellent restaurant for when you don't feel like cooking in:

For when you do, Valley Market is a full-service supermarket right down the hill that also sells discount Powder Mountain vouchers at the cash registers. Shuttle buses save what can be a heinous drive up the Powder Mountain access road.

We stayed there over the July 4th holiday in a single-family home that was nothing short of spectacular:

the word is that Pow Mow will also be also be offering a daily shuttle service from the Wolf Creek location.. might make the SUV an option instead of a necessity.

How is the drive to Snowbasin...SUV required?...think we had a toyota camry when we went up for the day to powmow..but then is was a sunny day!
besides..I'd probably need chains with a car..and not with an SUV...much night life in Ogden???...and suggestions with rest. and pubs?. I'm looking a townhouse on 25th street..near the old train station..

The drive up Trapper's Loop to Snowbasin is nothing when compared with the Powder Mountain access road.

Yeah, well...surely you noticed how steep and narrow it is? Now imagine it covered in elephant snot. With a 4WD going up wouldn't be that big a deal, but coming down would be a whole different story. IIRC Salida went off the road three times in his SUV coming down it in a storm last year.

25th Street is lined with bars and restaurants, and is the hub of nightlife for downtown Ogden. Rooster's is a great brewpub with good food (try the calamari!). I can't really comment on any of the others as I've spent precious little time in downtown Ogden.

Keep in mind that staying down there will feel about as far from a ski town/ski trip environment as you can possibly imagine.

Well looks like we are booked in at Moosehollow...place looks great..and if it snows and the roads are more than our full size car can handle..we can take the shuttle...also near the res. for snowkiting..any suggestions for rest. or taverns in Eden?...Thanks for all the input.

The Shooting Star Saloon in Huntsville is only about 5 mins from Eden, and is legendary. The Star Burger was in USA Today as one of the best burgers in the country. Be prepared for just a few domestics on draft. If you ask for anything special they may look at you funny. They do have some good local micros in bottles though. Bring cash, no credit cards accepted. Check some travel guide books for the history of the stuffed St. Bernard head on the wall. It can be eclectic, with bikers during the day, along with locals, and Europeans filling up the place during ski season.

There's a general store in Eden with a resturant attached. I believe it came under a new owner over the past year and I've heard good things. The Jackson Fork Inn, closer toward Ogden canyon, has a decent breakfast.

Keep asking around though, with the exception of these, we've been really dissappointed at some of the resturants in the Ogden valley, in comparison to what's in Ogden along 25th street, Timbermine, Prairie Schooner, etc. Everything in that valley looks so charming, but some places don't deliver the good eats.

Sounds Great!...Looking forward to it..seems I've got everything in order..flight/condo/rental car..now just need the time to arrive and hope for a record breaking snowfall...... ...Thanks again..
