Well, by this morning my season has three lift-served days on the ledger already. Not bad, although I haven't a prayer of catching up with MaxSutton.

On Saturday it was off to Okemo. They were offering 4 miles of terrain on Upper/Lower World Cup, Defiance, Timberline and Sapphire, as well as a portion of Open Slope and Fairway to return to the base. Uphill transport was provided by the Northstar Express Quad, the Sachem Quad, the Green Ridge Triple and the F-10 Poma.

I've got to hand it to Okemo, for only two days after opening for the season the resort really laid down a lot of snow. Surfaces were typically early-season variable and scraped by traffic later in the day (especially on lower World Cup), but cover was more than ample and edge-to-edge.

It did get a bit monotonous, though, as the trail names really didn't matter -- there was little to distinguish one run from the others, aside from the warm sun of the southeast-facing Defiance (hey, someone go back up and fix the spelling on that trail sign!) and the entertaining undulations of Timberline. The latter, unfortunately, also possessed the most inconsistent surface, ranging from delightful chalk to some nasty chunkies.

Spent the day cruising with LA Sharon, her hubba Bubba and a bunch of their friends. We left sporting big smiles.

Some photos below.

The summit area:

From South Hill:

I guess you were happy to ski on more than 650' of vertical

Nice report and pics... it's tough to see that when you're already at school at 8h30... when you just have a course at noon, cause a bunch of bus/subway drivers decided to not work this morning after 9h. (I hate this kind of strikes)

I would so much like to be on the slopes this morning, laughing of the Montrealers without bus/subway... especially as the warm temperatures arrive tomorrow...

Marc,

I was at Okemo the day after you. I would no doubt have caught up with you had I been there Saturday -- how tough can it be to find a guy with firsttracksonline.com on his back with only 4 runs open ...?

While I challenge anyone on Okemo staff to find me a 40" base (deep crevice, perhaps ...?), the cover was amazing. Sunday was warm enough to get some nice some soft bumps on lower section of Defiance along with skier's left on Lower World cup. Probably got 25,000 vertical before my quads revolted.

Somebody tell weather.com to fix the Southern Vermont forecast for next 10 days -- shades of 2001 ...

Rick

Catch you next time, Rick, although that may be trickier than you think...we spent half the day looking for friends of ours at Okemo, and never did find three other friends at Killington yesterday.

I'm hoping to get my first tracks in next Saturday at Okemo but the weather looks pretty iffy right now. Warm and rainy...yucch.

Yeah, it's amazingly tough to find people in a mountain, sometimes. 1st sunday, I never found some people for another website that I was supposed to meet... but this sunday, it was tough but I finally found them, even though there was 2 lifts running instead of 1.
