Um, well that was a little underwhelming. I think those that run the place made a great business decision: delay opening the lower lifts until next Friday. Realistically, there are two really good days until the holiday traffic trashes the place. Why let the season pass holders scrape things down especially when there is no snow forecasted for a while.
So I went Nordic skate skiing at the Nordic Center and it was quite good. I went skiing with these guys who are my age but are retired and can train all winter. Obviously I made some bad career decisions as I still am working. Oh well, someday…
After about 1 1/2 hours I returned to my car to change and go ride a lift. That's right, they opened one lift today. It's flat and was swarming with snowboarders as they built some features to hit. So I took a few runs. Used my pass. The rest of the ski area looks to be in great condition, only problem is I'm leaving for Baja on Thanksgiving Day to go kiting. Hope it snows when I'm gone.
Having been a skier/snowboarder for almost 50 years, I say this place looks ready to open! (Pine Martin Lift 6300')
Tomorrow we're going backcountry skiing at Ball Butte. Pics to follow.
