Mt Orford today !

Still nice conditions, but the holiday weeks really scraped most of the gladed trails on the Orford side. There was still some nice powder to ski, but l'Écureuil was still closed + la "Passe de l'Ours" and la "Porc-Épic" (+ Chevreuil as its entrances are from both trails) They were supposed to be open (except Écureuil), so... Bull reporting here.

I must say the closure reason was ok, for both, but there was just little passes that were almost impossible (as Écureuil too) and all the rest was SUPER nice. I thought at least 30 seconds to 1 minute before to go in the notch of "La passe de l'Ours). All in "window" ice and rocks. All the rest was really good... it's pretty bad that this pass was impossible. La Porc-Épic had just rocks on the junction of the 2 different possible ways to ski it... ouch the skis ! I really worked hard to avoid the last pitch of "Écureuil", today. First, I tried the contour way #1 and fell into over 3 feet of snow (ishhhh) and the second time, I took another alternate way, passing under a broken tree, with ultra thin cover, rocks, big steep and super narrowness... but it's still better than the fu**** last pitch of the normal way where no snow will ever stick. At least, Contour and Chevreuil were super good (normal for the 2 best extreme trails in Quebec ! Intrépide, Super and Rochers Jumeaux were also really good.

I skied a good part of the morning on the extreme glades on Giroux side. They were really softer and less tracked than the glades on the Orford side. As always, Dubreuil and Labrecque were not less than heaven, Lacroix was pretty good and stay one of the most scenic trail I've ever seen (Nirvana according to Marc Guido). Lloyd Langlois was good, but it's always the most tracked. I even not took Boogie, which is just a plunge between 2 rocks... and the notch is always full of rocks, so it's unskiable 95% of the time.

Dubreuil got nice powder before the pitch

Dubreuil's long steep pitch with a plunging view (see the position of the road)

For the intermediate bump run lovers, Mt Alfred Desrochers was pretty good with Cascade and Ookpic full of little bumps, great, but the chairlift is sooooooo long for the vertical !!

So finally, another Contour day with nice souvenirs of the long steep Dubreuil, which was once again the best on Giroux side.

talking of Contour, it's the enough narrow one that runs left of the widest trails, with few double fall lines (and from summit)

I read the comment about "Le Massif". I'm a little bit surprised, for l'Ecore in particular, as I took it in almost perfect conditions in mid-april last year, after a real poor season. For la 42, it's sure a rocky trail like that can't have no rocks, but I admit the conditions should be seriously less interesting into it since we don't have to walk 3/4 of a mile to reach it ! For l'Archipel, if they now groom that gem, I just don't want to comment, cause it would be more violent than a war in Iraq. Finally, thank you to give me a good reason to return to Massif du Sud and forget about the northern Massif !!!!!
