I drove up early from SLT and skied 9-320. Beautiful drive with no traffic until Granlibakken where it was slow getting through the two roundabouts. I heard many people were delayed getting over I-80 from Auburn, then further delayed on 89. I called 911 on an Amazon semi heading towards Emerald Bay as it seemed like it could easily have blocked the road, but did not get through until almost to Homewood. I stopped to take photos of Cascade Lake and Emerald Bay, but did not wait for sunrise.
I started with two laps on Roundhouse, finding totally untracked along the edge of runs, then did a lap on Yellow
where I stopped to take photo of tracks I left (on right). Scott chairline at 1005 below. I didn't ride it under after noon.
Next I braved Summit chair where singles line extended into the gates. I skied some chopped powder in Sunspot, then cut across to High Yellow where I came down in lightly tracked very steep snow on the ABC side. After riding Treeline Cirque and passing up almost untracked steep powder at top. I moved to Lakeview finding some good untracked on way for three laps. First time down I went a little past boundary signs to get untracked. Second time in singles line, I was ahead of 16 year ski instructor who skied 30 days this December (he took one day off to bike ride) and 201 days two years ago. He did not think there was enough base/powder to ski it, but was a challenge to follow for two laps on Lakeview and two more on Alpine Bowl chair. I did one more solo lap on ABC before riding Scott and skiing excellent, moderately tracked Lower 40 to my car. Lunch at my car while Fire Dept. hauled away an injured person. Lower 40 to left of center.
After a lunch break, I rode slow, flat and busy Subway, then still very busy TLC, skiing off Art's Knob. I finished my day with another Yellow chair lap, then three laps on Scott, twice skiing very good and challenging Seldom Slides, then finally meeting up with friend who started late due to traffic going over Donner Pass, then worse traffic getting onto CA-89, then filled parking which required shuttle from river rafting parking across highway. I skied Gentian Gully with him and his son, then gave them ride back to their vehicle. They had parking reservation, but had another big delay getting into remote lot and were told buses would stop running at 4. My watch got shut off. SkiTracks counted 19 runs and 16.8K while my Garmin watch had 18 runs (didn't count low vertical Subway) and 16.3K.
Random skiers taken from Roundhouse chair at 910 and 920. Beautiful, but very busy day. No traffic returning to SLT except at Inspiration Viewpoint above Emerald Bay where Sheriff was making people who were blocking road to see lake or play in the snow move, and some of the worst traffic I've ever seen (and avoided) in last mile to cabin.
