I skied the Olympic Valley side of Palisades on Tues, starting with a couple of Lakeview runs after riding Red Dog. It was firm towards bottom of both Red Dog and Resort chairs, but the edges of Resort run at bottom got better during day as scraped off snow accumulated while it was hard to find good snow at bottom of wider Red Dog. Both were less firm than the steeper part of Ridge Run at Heavenly on previous day even though it was in sun. Maybe there was an hour in early PM when bottom of Red Dog softened a little, but I much preferred Lakeview/Resort run as pitch is more consistent while Red Dog required skiing road-like, flattish and narrow Champs Elysees in middle. But Red Dog is a short and very steep high-speed six pack while Resort chair is a long and not high-speed triple with at least 10 minute ride. In a good year, a lot of this visible from Red Dog chair is skiable.

There were places when skiing fast on edges on both runs where it was hard not to think about what it would be like to crash and fall off the edge of the man-made snow. While it looks busy in first photo taken at 915 before my first run, this group was being given a tour by employee and, after taking photo, and I beat them to the excellent nearly untracked corduroy. Second photo of top of Lakeview taken on second run.

After two runs on Lakeview and one on Red Dog, I rode Funitel to top and skied busier Gold Coast 12X; 7 on main groomer and 5 on Mystery which had more challenge with bumps and thin areas. I didn't buy a burrito or beer, but picked up a spoon for yogurt I was carrying.

After downloading Funitel, I returned to Red Dog and Resort chair, taking a short break about 1 at nearby SUV where I had some snacks, dropped a layer and put a beer in my jacket pocket to stash for a Resort chair ride.

I quit at 3 with 26,250’ vertical, riding Red Dog 8x and Resort 7X during my day, and was home not much after 7. Last three photos are the Golf Course from Resort chair with Washeshu Peak in background, top of Red Dog on my last run and sunset taken through dirty and abused windshield on I-80 from edge of Sacramento. I hoped to get better photo from high bridge over Sacramento River, but sunset had already faded.

So I'm not the only one out skiing in these conditions? Tseeb got a bit more variety than I did, but also had to put in considerably more drive time/cost. In totally dry early seasons, there is an argument for getting on the manmade snow when it's relatively fresh. It gets much worse once it's been subject to several weekend crowds, especially if the days are warm enough for some melt/freeze as they definitely are now in SoCal. It was 81F at home yesterday.

Aren't warm temps fairly typical of SoCal in Oct-Dec time frame?

Looks quite playable. Anyone out on it?
Local paper says Truckee high was 61 yesterday. My weather station in warm part of San Jose showed high of 73-74.

I heard Mt Rose is closed today due to damaging winds. Alpine showing steady 66 mph and gust of 86 by 815.

The rest of the golf course, away from shade from Red Dodge Ridge was not as green. I don't think it's open, did not see any golfers and saw a couple walking their dog on it.

Edited to add photo I took of Homewood base when driving by before 830 yesterday. There is snow on runs higher up, but not sure when they plan to open. I did see plan that included a gondola so they would not have to download on chair or try to maintain a strip to Lake level.

I tried unsuccessfully to find number of days of at least 80F by month. I did find max temps by year for each month for the last 146 years. So, percentage of months with at least one day of Los Angeles temperatures at least (in F):

This is a stat that highlights coastal California's offset seasons vs. 95+% of the world. The higher temperature you go, the more September becomes the peak month.

Four days later at Palisades Tahoe.
People were also hiking up to ski Siberia which besides the road at top looked skiable when I was there.
