After closing cabin and a one hour drive from So. Tahoe, I skied 940-340, over 32K vertical, then saw KT Tunstall free concert on the KT deck from 4-5, then did the 4 hour, including stops at very busy In N’ Out in Davis and quiet Costco near 80/680 for gas - $4.39, four cents more than Business Costco by my house, drive home. Would have liked to make Kirkwood’s closing day today and get back to Palisades tomorrow but need to do some family time on Easter. I parked not too far from Red Dog and did a Resort lap. E-facing top of Lakeview was very good, shaded N-facing bottom firm.

I moved up the mountain on KT. Steeper routes down Red Dog and KT were closed due to firm early conditions. Saddle was groomed and very good. I went up Headwall and skied far side of Sun Bowl which was good corn, but a little past its prime. Closer side had bumps. Very steep Kitchen Wall above requires hiking palisades which are closed weekends.

I returned to Headwall by going to Saddle, avoiding steep, mostly ungroomed, N-facing. I then skied sunnier side of Headwall Face twice, cutting over to Siberia the 2nd time. Entry to Headwall Face and Hogback is getting narrow and you wanted to stay on top of the big moguls because snow in deep troughs is getting thin.

I skied Siberia Bowl a couple of times.

There were three race courses in use between Siberia Face and Gold Coast terrain park making all the routes off Siberia Ridge unavailable. I wanted to get to Emigrant but route towards it below Siberia Bowl was too firm and Gold Coast line was too long so I rode Siberia again and went along ridge and skied Gold Coast Face to get to Emigrant. Photos from top of Emigrant. First in Funnel. Next two and N and S part of Lake which is too wide for one photo.

Mt Rose and some of Diamond Peak runs visible on left.

Some of Heavenly to right of center. Entrance to National Chute, the wide one on left side of flattened on top Palisades, looks steeper than when I skied it last March.

Going up slow Emigrant was entertaining with half-pipe and big jumps under the first half. I skied excellent, very steep Funnel then caught highest traverse into Arete and went to Granite Chief, which had longer wait than Shirley Lake, but still only a couple minutes, for 3 laps. I skied both sides of trees on Main Backside and also skied High Voltage before doing two-chair Shirley, then Emigrant laps to repeat Funnel which was still excellent twice. Funnel looking up, then looking down to Shirley.

My last time after skiing Funnel (out of photo to left) I traversed higher and got into Rock Pile, the slope in center.

Some of the Funnel is visible between the first and second Wiggle on Shirley Lake. The third Wiggle continues lower as seen in previous photo.

After re-filling my water at Gold Coast I took three laps on Headwall, first skiing next to rock, but not too close as I came down closer to tower,

and traversing over to a diagonal face between Cornice II and Classic Chute. I skied the chute that is partially behind tall tree and to left of big rock almost on right edge.

Next I skied still firm at 2 pm North Bowl and getting into a good unskied groomed shot I’d seen from lift. My last Headwall lap was mellower Cornice II Ridge into Bullet with an exciting drop onto Mountain Run.

I wanted to skied face below big rock between KT and Red Dog. Route to it past Olympic Lady was closed last time I was at Palisades so I thought I may have to get to it by hiking from Red Dog. But after a KT lap skiing smoot route just past Womens Downhill and Schimmelfennig Bowl, I followed two couples who went around front of top of Olympic Lady (back was burned off, something I’m not sure I’ve seen before) onto short face above Tamara’s then out Red Dog Ridge.

I lost them, but got past the big rock to what map says is Heidi’s which held very good corn, even better on left side where it had some shade. I repeated it, turning before rock skiing between it and Heidi’s Glades getting a little longer corn run. For my last lap, I skied steep drop (one of Tom’s Tumbles) off beginning of Red Dog Ridge into Tamara’s drops off steep sides where better than bumped gully, finishing with still firm enough Red Dog Face. KT Tunstall on KT deck. I had to stand for show.
