Panorama BC

106 inches snowfall through Jan. 30.
10 inches between the end of Jan. and mid-March, by which time conditions truly sucked.
16 inches since then, including 7 in the past 3 days.

The base is thin. There is powder in the upper bowls now but I can't see how you would avoid hitting obstacles underneath it. The lower mountain groomers remain hardpack and frozen granular.

Panorama very likely has the worst conditions of any western Canada area open (Red Mt., Kimberley and some smaller places have closed). Most B.C. areas have received considerably more than Panorama's 16 inches in the past 2 weeks.

Cut your losses and go somewhere else. Unless you're going to spend your time in Panorama with RK Heliski. RK flies out of Panorama into a heavily glaciated area just south of the Bugaboos. I had an excellent day there March 30, 1999.

Panorama does have some interesting terrain and unusually long runs by North American standards. It also faces north and should preserve snow well on the upper mountain once the base is adequate (which it most certainly is not now). Unfortunately average snowfall is so low that it is unwise IMHO to advance book a trip before the season starts. If you wait for a good start to the season and book in January/February for March/April you would have the best chance of success.
