Day 3: It ain't the Greatest Snow on Earth, but skiing on manmade is better than no skiing at all.

Skidog and I hit up PCMR on opening day today. It was one real way up (Payday, although First Time was spinning, too) and one WROD heading down (Homerun). We figured that we'd get there for the 9 a.m. opening to beat the crowd and ski it before things got too skied off.

Yep, it was like a game of Frogger, especially after, say, 10:30 when people really started showing up. Guns were blazing along the length of Payday to create a second route down, as well as on Blanche, Treasure Hollow and First Time. Cover was good, albeit fast and firm, and I took only about a half dozen runs before calling it a day. Skidog took three more while I tried the Alpine Coaster for the first time and grabbed a slice of pizza with a Corona before we headed home.

It looks like tomorrow will be with Tirolerpeter at The Canyons' opening day.

Helmet cam video of the whole run:

jeeze, i guess the east is an ok place to be right now-go to jaypeakresort.com for photos of the day and you can witness jay cloud in action. in the old days indians inhabited what is now park city because it didn't snow much there and they called the area "hole in the sky". although when it does snow deer valley is hard to beat because the one piece suit richies would rather stay inside, foot er two of fresh there and ya got it to yerself. oh, but please still go to alta cuz that's the place to be.

We live for Alta...I think I can speak for admin on that one as well...we're just waiting for the snow to fall....

Oh yeah and I also think admin knows first hand of the "jay cloud" he patrolled there for some time... ;-)

Think snow.

new camera? the resolution on the video looks very good. and the snow looks a lot better on the video than the stills of that naked mountain.

It's a Viosport Adventure Cam 3 (see our recent gear guide for a review). It's an analog lipstick cam that plugs into any camcorder with an A/V input -- I had it plugged into a MiniDV digital cam. Getting a decent resolution/quality for web viewing is the trick -- I've been monkeying around with it all night, and I'm still doing so.
