First day skiing at PC on our vacation. Absolutely, dead solid perfect ski day - sunny, with just a few puffy clouds in the sky, temps at the higher altitudes of about 28 degrees with a very light wind. Warm enough to be completely comfortable (even for my wife who doesn't really like the cold) but still cold and dry enough to keep the snow from getting too soft or heavy. Conditions on the groomed trails were excellent - a deep base with all packed powder and not a speck of ice or hard snow to be found. Certainly a nice change from the solid ice I have been skiing on back East. A great day just to make large, GS turns down any of the groomed trails. Without question, one of the best days of skiing in my 40 or so years of skiing. PC is a nice mountain - large with a wide variety of terrain. I did not do Jupiter or McConkey's. I may try those tomorrow. It was crowded with the holiday weekend upon us, but once you got above the base the lines at most of the lifts were not that bad and there are enough trails to disperse even the large crowds. It is nice to be here when I am watching the Weather Channel reporting heavy rain back in the Northeast.

Friday had the best conditions I've ever seen at Park City. The lower mountain often has hardpack or slop on the groomers and thin cover off-trail. But not now, so we spent most of the afternoon enjoying lower mountain terrain I normally avoid.

Interesting the warmup started at Park City Sunday. Top of Collins temps at Alta topped out at 16F. Friday and Saturday at Park City and Sundance were similar. Today at Snowbasin was noticeably warmer.

Boy have you two missed out. Sunday was probably the WORST day of the season at PCMR. That's how good it's been. This was the first day I said to myself that we could use a freshup. The sun was nice, though.

LOL, Tele. Make me jealous. I take your word that these have been the "worst" days of the season at PC. I can only imagine what the best days have been like. I skied PC again this morning (Monday, Feb. 18). This time I was alone so I took the Town Lift right to the Bonanza Lift, then straight to McConkey's. I skied a couple of the groomed cruisers - Tycoon to Georgeanna to get warmed up, then skied down Sunrise that had been groomed smooth as a superhighway the night before. Like on Sunday, the groomed trails were just perfect, I thought, and there were no crowds yet up high. I then hiked part way up towards Jupiter Peak and traversed across into the "P" zone where there was chopped up powder and some small moguls. Relatively easy skiing for that bowl, I imagine. It was another beautiful, sunny day at PC but still cold and dry enough for the snow not to get too soft or heavy. I'm going to try Deer Valley tomorrow. I may come back to PC later in the week. I still want to try Scott's Bowl.
