Park City Trip

I will be heading out to Park City 1/28 and am looking for some tips on where to ski and eat.
I have previously skiied Alta, DV, and Canyons, but the rest of my group is new to the area. All of the skiiers are intermediate to advanced. We are staying very close to DV, so I anticipate spending a few days there. We have 6 ski days, but will not have a car to travel outside of the shuttle route.

I have been told that Chimayo and Prime Steakhouse are nice resturants, but it would be nice to find the local favorites.

Thanks

Mike

High West Distillery & Saloon has the right mountain ambiance and good food at reasonable cost.
Royal Street Cafe in Deer Valley (Silver Lake) has DV quality at a lower price point. If you want fancier, Mariposa.
Windy Ridge is good and has a very good bakery on-site.
Chimayo and all of Main Street in general is over-priced. If you're okay with that, I'd go with Wahso instead (close call). Same owner as Chimayo.
Deer Valley Grocery & Cafe is a very good off-hill daytime choice. They make excellent paninis and soups.
If you ski PCMR, Silver Star Cafe is a ski in-out place not owned by the mountain and much better across the board than what PCMR does.

Where to ski is too wide a question and you say you've already been to all three, anyway. But my vote is to skip PCMR and emphasize DV. But conditions have improved to a point that there isn't a huge no-no like earlier in the season.

I've done the Riverhorse on Main the last 3 Christmas Eve's and loved it. They just reopened from a big remodel and it looks great. Not cheap but the trio of game (elk, bison, venison) is pretty amazing as was the bison carpaccio (sp?).

Never skied in PC so I'm no help on that front.

I'd consider Wahso even more overpriced for what you get than Chimayo. What I found particularly distressing about Washo is their $42 duck entree - the identical dish is $28 in summer.
Both are indeed excellent restaurants, but like all the good fine dining restaurants on Main St., you pay a premium. It's very easy to hit $75/person for dinner at any of them. It's also easy to spend a little to much more than that $75.

Thanks for the dining tips. I am always looking for the "hole-in-the-wall" type places that locals eat. They usually have a way better value than the resturants in prime real estate areas. I last visited PC in 2005, and I cant remember where we ate for the life of me. I do remember a small resturant by DV that made great soups, but I cant even remember what the building looked like.

And if you're into sushi be sure to try mbaydala's joint on Main St. Be sure to ask for the FTO deal, but I'm pretty sure that only gets you a decreased level of service.

And your drinks thrown at you.

Actually, there was a soup place on the way to DV, half a mile before you get to Snow Park. It's the only commercial building in that area. It closed down and DV Grocery & Cafe opened up in in its place. If you go, try the trio of soup (your choice of three soups for the same price). Many times when it arrives at the table, somebody in an adjoining table gets up and changes their order to that. Their four cheese panini is sublime.

Park City has great deals in the summer and my experience of Wahso is colored by that. You can get $10 entrees (smaller portion) and $5 starters on certain days. Just pick up a Park Record. Worth checking the paper in the winter, as well, if it is not a really busy period.

Yep, and that price I quoted didn't even require a coupon from the Record, as many do. There were a number of other dishes that were significantly price reduced in the summer. And they were identical in both preparation and quantity to their winter counterparts.

Returning to the question at hand, and assuming a willingness to pay Main Street prices, other faves are:
Cafe Terigo
350 Main
Shabu Shabu
The Mustang

Zoom is basically pretty good, but it's had it's ups and downs, depending on the exec chef at the time. I do not know it's present quality.

I haven't been to either of these, but they're getting good reviews:
Talisker on Main
Silver (but Serbian friends of our Serbian friends weren't at all impressed)

There are two brewpubs in PC - Wasatch Brewing at the top of Main, and Squatters, just a little bit north of downtown on 224 (the main road from I-80).

Off of Main and also excellent:
Adolph's
Grub Steak (one friend felt it better than any of the Ruth's Chris steakhouses, with much more reasonable prices)

And no PC list is complete without mentioning the enormous seafood buffet at Deer Valley in the Snow Park (ie: the lower) lodge. While not cheap in absolute dollars ($55/person ???), it's actually a bargain for what you get.
