We just had to run over to Pico for a half-day yesterday. What a great sun-burn day, but plenty cold. Pico opened last Friday, but we had planned to take advantage of the freebee at Killington (until we drove up the access road and found the Showshed lot closed and the Ram's lot nearly closed). We did a U-turn and opted for Pico instead. The good news was the absence of skiers; the bad news was the absence of snow (man-made, that is). The conditions Friday were pretty much boilerplate. As of today, there seemed to be no efforts made to add any snow, but the conditions were much improved on the few trails that are open, and Forty-Niner was excellent off the summit.

We met some of the 70-plussers in the lodge (several of the men had been 10th Mt. skiers), and they'd been having a blast at Killington early season. One "old boy" announced that he's 78 years old this year and has already skied nine days this season. They all travel in a pack and come over to Rutland to ski 2-3 days each week. (They know where all the good deals on motel accommodations are to be found). Nobody skied on Tuesday - they said it was pouring rain at the mountains, and the wind had many lifts on hold.
