A Pico employee said they had received 26". When I bought the lift tickets they said the top lift was on wind hold but they would try to get it open by 11:30. It was not to be. The powder was heavy and there was no terrain open steep enough to move in uncut snow. There was no officially open black terrain. However, skiers by the dozens were ducking ropes across something called A slope in full view of the liftie and patrol. After one law abiding run we did too. Skied all morning on A, a nice pitch of ~ 400 vertical followed by a long run out with another milder shorter pitch near the bottom. Another lift, Outback (?) was also closed although running. I asked the liftie why, 3 times, 3 times he mumbled something without ever looking me in the eye. On the fourth, "pardon me I still can't hear you" he shouted that it would open tomorrow. Spent all PM on B slope after A got tracked out. Same duck the rope drill. Wider, milder but nowhere near as tracked as A at noon. When I ran out of legs at 3, I helped some poor soul search for his lost ski in the deep stuff. Never did find it.

In short I had a great day due to the company and the presence of abundant powder. I was less than impressed with Pico. The top lift being down, OK, I was informed. However the second lift down, no officially open black terrain, bad employee attitude and $48 lift ticket price for the privilege insured that it will be a while before I return.

This I must say is the exception, rather than the rule for Pico. I have had nothing but great experiences at this mountain.
