One lady said that her mother had called from Ventnor, N.J. this morning to say they were getting hammered with snow down there. By this morning, all of the lower mountain had been groomed and had received some new snow to cover the ice from earlier in the week. Snow guns ran all day on 49er, and some of our friends reported that the upper trail had been very icy and difficult yesterday. Between the man-made and the predicted snow, the upper mountain should be in good shape for the holiday weekend.

All around town, we noticed lots of "no vacancy" signs on the local motels, and we've become aware of another weekly curiosity at the local Mobil gas stations. We always try to fill up the tank when we're in Vermont, because the price of gas is much better than over here in the Adirondacks. But, it seems that the price of gas always shoots up a few cents on Fridays and returns to more "normal" prices early in the week. That just may be a coincidence, but it seems to happen like clockwork just before the out-of-staters hit Rutland for the weekend.
