So after last nights snowfall I had anticipated driving over Guardsman’s pass from Park City over to Brighton or Solitude. Unfortunately, as I made it up and over Deer Valley I reached the fork in the road that turns to Heber/Midway and the road up and over Brighton’s Crest is now closed for the season. I had only anticipated a 20 minute drive so I decided to check out the Canyons since they were quoting 8 inches of new snow which was just as much as Solitude and Brighton. So that’s just what I did.
The skiing at the Canyons was surprisingly nice. The snow was soft on the top of Saddleback Express and I would say their 8 inch report was no bull, I wouldn’t be surprised if they received slightly more then that. The only downside to the day was the only trail that was open was Kokpellie to Main Line and they were pretty much blowing snow on it the whole way down. This did help to keep the trails soft into the early afternoon and I probably did about 8 laps over there.
At about that time I got a call from a friend who was over at Park City so I decided to end my afternoon over there. There was considerably less snow on the top of the Payday lift, I’d say their call at 4 inches was accurate. By the time I made it there is was probably about 2 pm and the sun was starting to shift behind the ridge line. Conditions got cold, scratchy and fast, but it was still nice to make about 5 runs on Homerun. On a side note the guns were going pretty good on Payday so I would suspect they will be opening that run with in the next day or so.
Sorry the only pictures are from the Canyons and my trip over the pass as I forgot my camera in the car at PC. Lets hope we get a couple more inches from these next couple of brush bye storms.
