Early April in Mid-February

We were prepared for somewhat springlike conditions today but it ended up getting quite warm and Plattekill was at max capacity with cars parked 6/10 of a mile down the access road (Jason measured it). I don't think I've ever seen actual liftlines there, even on days that were busy. Still, the most we ever waited was four minutes.

Liftlines Back to the Lodge

Deep blue skies: conditions were nice and soft off the double but with the warm temps, it was heavy going in the woods, which are well covered with all the recent snow. Once on the hill, people dispersed nicely -- it never felt remotely crowded.

Kneissl skis: you don't see those much on this side of the Atlantic.

Around 11 pm, we took our first and only run off the east-facing triple; terrain there was getting sticky in spots.

Sundown

By 1 pm, Jason -- who'd hurt his back at work earlier in the week then aggravated it in the bumps -- decided to call it a day. Time for a quick Mother's Milk stout in the crowded bar and we hit the road.

We were very glad for Plattekill owner Laszlo to nail what must've been a big revenue day but aren't the crowds kinda what we go to Plattekill to avoid? Oh well, can't have it both ways.

Lots more photos and comments from the day at NY Ski Blog. We're looking at a very warm sunny week in the northeast more typical of mid-April, so there's going to be a fair amount of snow loss.

Was there yesterday. Same conditions although the thaw is showing, rocks popping out. The best runs where Northface, Blockbuster and plunge. It actualy got much better after 1 pm as it started getting colder and the snow corned up.

Good to hear that the smaller ski areas are pulling in big crowds. Magic in VT had to stop selling tickets by noon yesterday because the liftlines were so long, and that was with both chairs running (first time in many moons).
