(Note from the Administrator: This report was originally posted on 2/20/00. Over here at Platte the lifties were saying how this was the busiest day they can ever remember, the lots were full and people were on parking on the access road. Even with all of that the longest lift line to be found was no more than 5 minutes.

The snow? Ahhh, the snow. Simply amazing powder everywhere. Big, medium and small soft bumps were everywhere depending on the trail. They picked up about 12 inches from the Friday night/Saturday morning storm. Light, sweet fluff of the highest quality.

The t-bar (yes, t-bar) didn't crank up till about 10:30, so if you did a little traverse off the triple you had that side virtually to yourself. Freshies, freshies, freshies. Even when the t-bar opened and the lines were the longest (again, never longer than 5 minutes) the trails were empty.

If you like the woods, and there are lines everywhere at this place, you could have unblemished white every run all day. I rode with a patroler once and asked what their tree-skiing policy was. He responded, "don't hit 'em." It's wide open, if you want to give it a try it's all yours.

They're going to be open all week (normally they are only open Friday-Sunday) for the President's holiday so go there. Go there now.
