Unbelievable, simply unbelievable. 10-12" a week ago Friday, 30-36" Mon-Wed, 15-18" yesterday. For those of you who doubt it, just take a trip into the woods and take your skis off. It is waist - stomach deep!

I pulled a "snow" day from work Fri - I had planned one earlier in the year when the Cats & Berks got 18-20", but my daughter got sick and my trip nixed. With me just a basket case with all the snow, and my b-day this week, my (pregnant) wife (with an assist from the in-laws) gave the green light and I headed up solo on Friday morning for an overnighter. Turned out that this was the best time anyway! Heavy snow most of the way up, and I didn't get on it until almost 11am. By then there was 6-8" on the trails that had been groomed that morning, and a good 8-12" elsewhere. Plus some of the "Blizzard" powder underneath for good measure. Drifts/sides were over knee deep. Face shots and all. Not too heavy either as it stayed in the 26-28 degree area. Snowed lightly all day, except from 2-3pm or so when at one point it was S++ and probably doing 2" and hour. All I know for sure is that it snowed at the rate of 1/4-1/2" per T-bar ride, which takes 10 min or so. I counted 40 cars in the lot, and I figure at least 10 were employees. It was empty. Tracks I made in the am were still identifiable in the PM, though barely as the snow was filling them in.

Snowed more Friday night and also blew a bit, plus it hadn't really been too skied off. The result was basically virgin powder in the 12-15" range. Got crowed (well, compared to Friday) and so I ventured into the woods. That's when I realized just how rare today was. It was sooo deep, 4-5 feet fresh - it had all fallen within the past week. I don't think that happens too often in the Catskills! Hop turns, face shots, jumping rocks, taking branches in the face. Awesome, awesome awesome.
The downside is that I just don;t think that will happen in the Catskills for years to come, but I hope I'm lucky enough to get it when it does!

BTW, Plattekill is the best powder and expert mountain in the Castskills/Berkshires region. If you want steep and deep, this is the place.
