I'm relaying some interesting info from an article in today's Bend Bulletin.
They said Hoodoo, a local ski area near here on Santiam Pass, saw it's best season in 25 years. They hosted 97,761 visitors: a 9% increase over 06-07.
Mt Bachelor, due to stay open through PPP weekend (May 18), saw a 15% decrease in visits over last season.
Decades old records were broken at Mt Hood Meadows and Hoodoo, with 750 inches - breaking the 82-83 record, and 543 inches, respectively.
Ticket prices will rise as Hoodoo, barely meeting expenses due to energy costs, will raise prices from $39 to $42 next season.
Mt Bachelor, which has raised prices the past two seasons, likely will do the same again, so says the article. Mt Hood Meadows and Mt Ashland also have confirmed higher prices next season.
It stated Mt Bachelor <somehow> sold more than 900 unlimited (think May 18) spring season passes selling for $99 since they went on sale earlier this month. Not surprising considering our surface conditions, but when they announced the Spring Passes they hadn't even decided on the close date!
ps: Today was another powder day at Mt Bachelor with 4" overnight. I was doing intervals on the Pole, Pedal, Paddle course, training for that upcoming endurance competition. They groom on Sat and Wed mornings at the now closed Nordic Center. There is currently 12-15 feet of snow where I skied today under snowy skies.
Justin Wadsworth, a local ski hero married to Canadian Gold Medalist Becky Scott and now coach for the US Nordic Team, is hosting the team here June 2-10. They're grooming skate lanes for training on those dates for the team (and friends). No small wonder the local Bend nordic skiers ruled at this year's Masters World Cup competition held at McCall, ID this season!
