High winds were predicted for the NH high peaks which made me reconsider going to Cannon Mt for some Super Bowl Sunday skiing. Two free tickets from a Jeep Day promotion at Ragged Mt made this area an easy back up plan.

This was my first time at Ragged and the weather was perfect for Jeep day with bright sun, deep blue sky and wind only at the summit of Spear mt. The free ticket crazed masses were not detered by the fact is was Superbowl Sunday and the main parking lot was half full of jeeps a half hour before the lifts turned.

The early runs were excellent on groomed fast surfaces and ski up to the lifts skiing. The crowd increased and the lifts lines built on every lift. At times the lift lines actually over lapped from the tripple and two double chairs. The lack of up hill capacity made for uncrowded trails.

A ski patroller told me Ragged has lift lines two days a year Jeep Day and pepsi Day. The skiers were good natured about the lift lines given they were skiing free. Some of the natural snow trails couldn't take the skier traffic and the cover was scrapped to the dirt on trails like Flying Yankee.

Ragged is pretty much a blue cruiser heaven mountain, but there are a few trails with steep pitches and some with bumps to keep it interesting. Ragged had made some snow and done a pretty good job with grooming most of the open terrain. I would like to ski the area after some fresh snow sometime.

The lodges are big for a medium sized ski area and the New England architecture is refreshing after seeing Euro-faux buildings at so many other resorts. The parking situation must be excellent under ordinary cirmcumstances, but yesterday Jeeps over whelmed the parking lots. There migh have been 800-900 jeeps cramming the lots yesterday.
