The sun has been bright all day and I?m still groggy from a week long powder binge. It?s 2pm and we?ll get it together soon enough. Puffy white blobs cling to everything just outside the door.
The road to paradise isn?t paved. But it is packed down and skinning up it lends a perspective unique to a neighborhood built on the lower flanks of a big mountain.
Rounding bends of switchbacks looking up and looking down into exaggerated snow cover. Branches bent over under weight of sunhit snow caress pristine surfaces just outside the tree wells.
Around switchback 5, we?re really high now and the juicy looking line below begs attention. It wants to be skied. Come take a ride with me. Let?s dive down there and chase roller balls skimming the surface of the heavying powder. Let?s surf it high speed and dodge and weave around trees. Down to the 4th switchback and skin back up again.

Then, let?s do it again. And again.
Three solid laps of this, then we?ll have enough. All the way down to the houses on the last one, whose owners barely manage to keep things passable through all the winter?s snow.
Bombing down a backcountry groomer, the snowpacked road that winds down to a point of view that we?ll stop and think about. Standing there, on the side of the road, staring out across the valley at majestic mountains fading into the last glow of daylight.
All will turn to gray soon, when it?s time to push off and glide down to the warmth of home. A comfy, cozy house. A place to hang up the gear and let it dry, just waiting for what tomorrow brings.
