After 7 years, I have returned to Red Mountain. Big change from the usual Utah trip.

Great vibe here. Canadian mining town turned ski town that is a small town gem.

Red Mountain delivered the goods on our first day. Thank you La Nina! and thank you Granite and Red Mountains for your steep powder-filled glades.

Here's the full report with pix.

Red Mt. reported 10 inches Feb. 22-24 and another 7 Feb. 27-28. Season-to-date snowfall of 203 inches is dead-on average, La Nina notwithstanding. http://www.redresort.com/mountain/report/ Nice to hear the place is still low key enough to be yielding consistent powder conditions with that. We all know LCC gets pounded into submission daily with twice that much snow.

Next year's NASJA Western regional meeting will be hosted by Red and Whitewater, definitely looking forward to that. I hope you're getting over to Whitewater this week to see the new expansion lift and terrain.

Great Trip report Powderqueen! Welcome to Canada eh! I think you are going to have a very good week in the Kootenays. I have some good Pals that live in (tres cool) Rossland and was speaking to them on Monday and Tuesday when they were out on the slopes getting after the goods. I weep with envy. 'Hope you can stand the crowds...Red is without a doubt one of my favourite places on the planet. Best tree skiing in N.America if not the world. Looking forward to your TR of BRC and some more from the area. While in the area, check out the Rock Cut Neighbourhood Pub (accross the road from the base on your way to town). One of my Pals owns the RCNB but doesn't run it anymore as he sold the bar op.co. to a Aussie (Darren) last year. Tell them I sent you...a.k.a. Warren's friend Burrhead Dave from Ontario. I'm back there on business April 6-13, Red will be closed by then but I'm angling to hit Whitewater for a least a day or 2. Enjoy!

Red Sucks seems to be the theme here amongst the locals. They really don't want people to know about their little gem. It is small enough to keep the masses away. Few Americans even know of this place. It is truly a skier's mountain. I don't think this place will ever become really touristy and it forever will welcome the hard core skier.

I find this mountain comparable to Snowbird in terms of steeps, cliffs and vertical drop. It may not get the deep blower powder that the Wasatch get, and maybe not have the acreage that Snowbird or Alta has, but the tree skiing far exceeds anything I've skied in Utah and we've had fresh powder every day. The people are so chill here too and much more laid back and friendly.

As most of you know I prefer high alpine-type skiing, But I agree that Red Mt. is the best expert tree skiing I've ever seen.
