Decided to start breaking in my new ski boots at Shawnee Peak today. Also hoped to avoid the holiday crowds that the bigger mountains draw. Crowds were pretty minimal from 9-11ish. Conditions were packed powder with a few scratchy spots here and there. Yo-Yo'd between the Summit Triple and the triple on the east side. First two runs were pretty painful on the feet, but I got used to it after a while.
After 11, all heck broke loose-people everywhere. LIft lines approx 5 minutes--isn't too bad I guess, but Shawnee regulars mentioned to me that today was "very" busy compared to normal. The trails started getting "ski-ed off" (or should I saw "slid" off because of the amount of snowboarders slide-slipping down the mountain). Stuck toward the trees which is where most of the snow seemed to be getting pushed.
Took quite a fall on the last run of the day (HEY-first time in my new boots .
Run of the day IMO was Tycoon.
All in all, I really liked this place (had never been there before) and will be adding it to my "go back and visit" list.
