Yeah, but I have to wonder how many core shots were sustained to and from each photo op.

Then again, who cares?

I think they are breaking in the demo skiis they rent to Texans! :D

I doubt that the public is allowed to partake of these early storms, which were in September the previous 2 years, even on a guided basis. The reality is that well-conditioned members of the public are invited to help bootpack the mountain Dec. 3-4 and Dec. 10-11, in return for a free day of guided skiing when their season actually gets going.

No criticism intended here. If I ran Silverton, I'd send out a couple of guides to get these mouth-watering photos as advertising fodder too.

:D I want to be that guy on someone elses board 8) ! I've almost torn a rail out of a board in early season conditions... not this early though! Man I would be all over that roller coaster ride right now though. I do have Thursday off and a rock board. Just not sure if I am as zealous as some of our fellow board residents? It's still raining here... probably will be 85 Wednesday though :(

What is Silvertons regulations concerning boot packing it during the season?

and sunny sky's too.

i was hoping that my buddy was going to post our report from the other day so i could steal some pics from that board and share them here. no such luck. anyways, 2'-3' of powder in the good spots. rolled over a few rocks, which was expected. got to lay out a few nice slashers though. good times. if i get pics, i'll post.

the CO folks should be showing off their early season teasers pretty soon too.

There was 2'+ near Bozeman? Seems like everywhere is getting a taste.

yea, jeez man who cares is right! i had a pair of skis only last two seasons before the core shots totaled the ski and blew a sidewall out. if the turns are epic, they are worth every single core shot!

that last pic is front cover magazine material.

oh god, you guys scored... lucky bastards.

The clouds just started to clear off the mountains here and it looks like there is snow down around 8-5 to 9K feet. I started to drive up and check the depth after work, but I can't go till Thursday anyway so .... I would be suprised if it was over a foot, even though it sat there for almost 4 days strait. I don't think the air temp was low enough for a lot of the storm. I guess you guys in Montana have a pretty good chance of keeping your snow-pack. I doubt if this will be here in a few days in SF, but who knows? :D

Looks like there might have been some base underneath that powder

First Turns of The Season Today at Silverton Mountain-

Sunday, October 9, 2005

Hello friends. With a solid winter storm today, the first tracks on the mountain were laid down today. It was steep, tight, deep and surprisingly good. In some places there is still 5 feet or more of leftover snow from last winter(540" snow total from last winter), making for a great base layer for the fresh snow. Check out today's photos @ http://www.silvertonmountain.com/gallery/album50

The 2005/2006 winter will again be guided only skiing with approximately 80 skiers a day or less. Starting April 1, 2006 we will also be offering some unguided skiing options in additon to the guided skiing. Opening day is December 15th. Hope to ski with you soon. (sample of today's photos below)

Thinking Snow,
