yeah that's pretty good.. i just finished watching stump's " groove -requiem in the key of ski " to try and get through this aggravating last 30 days... i think it's from 1990 or so...some nice old school boarding clips with dan donnelly and some early boardercross stuff from whistler.
it's actually a pretty good movie - probably my second favorite from stump behind u know what.... alpine downhill and moguls and boarding all in the same one...

Good stuff...maybe #3 (but I only saw it once) on the Stump list. I prefer the "u know what" followed by License to Thrill.

BUT I'm should watch these movies again to be sure.

BTW, I believe the young guy talking (not the mustache one) is a young Brian Stemmle, ex-member of the Canadian team. Had the fastest time in Nagano until we missed the last turn in the downhill. It was probably his greatest run ever, until... Many years before he almost died at Kitzbuhel crashing in a net.

If it's Stemmle then the odds are that the ski area in around Georgian Bay in Ontario.

just to make sure pat, " my u know what" is fistful of moguls--- blizzard is probably tied with groove.... not sure if u were thinking of blizzard or fistful... which if u were thinking of blizzard- " bravo" .. i bring this up becasue i have worn out my copy of fistful on vhs to the point were it is gonna snap and have been searching for a new copy for about a year....i can't even find a new copy on vhs, never mind the obvious better choice of dvd....that big old train called " lack of respect for moguls " just keeps on rollin on... inexplicably  , even though " fistful is apparently no longer available, you can still get a copy of " "maltese flamingo " . what a disgrace!!!! plus stump just had a big re- issue of all his flicks- except , u guessed it... if i run across plake this winter , he's gonna get an earful about that!!!!!

OOps, sorry I did think you meant Blizzard. Anyway Blizzard was the movie that really opened my eyes + the music was great. Okay, it was great in the 80s, but definately much better and revolutionary compare to those Miller infomercials for Nissan and (place whatever sponsor here).

I believe I saw a click of Fistful of Moguls during Plake's show on RSN TV while I was in Mammoth last june.

As mentioned in another topic I saw Miller's new Higher Ground last night, and I don't recall the sponsor shots being quite as blatant as they were this year. Really obvious and annoying. (Jeep, Grand Marnier, Nature Valley Granola Bars, Camelbak, etc.)

Notice the same thing a few years ago (maybe 4 years ago), totally turned off by the whole thing. That is the main reason why i'm not a big fan of the whole Warren Miller thing.

Not sure if I going this year. I have a discount on admission, but what's are the walking deals for the Ottawa show this year? Free tix to Tremblant and other places? :-k

However I am schedule to see at least one WM. The annual benefit for the Canada Ski Museum including an auction and a presentation Warren Miller "Fifty" flick. This is only 3 days after Higher Ground.

I got TGR's Tangerine Dream last weekend, and MSP's Hit List today, and I gotta say, I'm dying... just dyin'.

Raining & 8C here in T.

But on the plus side, No blatant sponsor shots in the flicks (except opening credits...)

i skipped the TGR premiere this year, but i heard that the sponsors were plugged abundantly. a long openning segment on some surf plug. is this a surf flick or a skiing flick? another comment on the TGR movie was that they are getting too long. IMO, anything over an hour is too long. most of the films are around 45 minutes. the TGR one is what, 1.5hrs?

BTW, bozeman folks:
Level 1 Productions, Shanghai Six (ski)
Emerson Cultural Center
November 7th. 7pm doors, 8:30 show
$8 tix at door
to benefit the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center
this movie is a newschool freestyle skiing flick

Absinthe Films, Futureproof (snowboard)
Gaines Hall 101 (MSU campus)
November 15. 8pm doors, 8:30 show
$5 MSU students, $8 public
the powder in this movie almost makes you nautious. big lines, backcountry booters, and TONS of pow. very few jibs.

WM's Impact last year: i was pretty disgusted with the in your face advertising during the movie. i can stomach paying money and having some ads at the beginning, but the product placement both in the movie and while entering the hall was amazing. i can't imagine what this year's WM is like. suffice to say, i won't be finding out any time soon, count me out for future WMs, these folks are out of touch despite shooting good video. not worth the price of admission and the freebies are more restricted than last year with the mid-week only thing.

caught the premier of meatheads new flick 'born from ice' two weeks back. wikked! killer pow days at jay, mrg, and mansfield, big bump scene from kmart (joegm, you'd love it!), and a big sceen on newfoundland. amazing stuff up there.

pat, u r right about the music from blizzard.... that group propaganda , althought kind of nutty, had some killer tunes... i like the music from fistful just as much too... fistful and groove turned me on to the music of SEAL... one of the greats for skiing music i think...nothing like " CRAZY " blasting on the earphones cutting through a foot of fresh or even just riding up a lift and looking around at the scenery.... i am told that seal is also a big time skier / boarder out of whistler.... i better stop.. i'm giving myself the shakes here... are we under 20 days ?

Joe, I might be slightly older than you. I was really into Propaganda, this group probably made one of my favorites 80s album. "A Secret Wish" , which it wasn't part of the movie. Frankies Goes to Hollywood (in the movie) also bring backs some good memories, driving away from Montreal at 5am to go skiing at Killington, alone on the road with a good skier friend who left for BC a few years later. Other music part of these early K trip would have been Propaganda and The new Smiths album, "Meat is Murder", an another classic.

I know what you meant about finding old stuff, I bought the Stumps 4-pack DVD because I needed a copy of Blizzard in July.

Look at these link Joe (good luck for your Christmas shopping).

Starting to hear quite a bit on " Meathead Films " and since they focus on eastern skiing would be a interesting alternative to WM. Any recommendations on which ones to order.

Born From Ice is their latest release which definitely has the best skiing footage, powder, and action shots. Epoch is more documentary based with some skiing. if you are into the back country or at all interested in skiing and mountaineering history of mansfield, washington, katahdin, greylock, and marcy, this one does a great job. a lot of the history in this documentary was likely supplied by Forest and Crag by the watermans. they do interviews with folks very knowledgable in local history, good stuff. shows new england back country as it really is... five tours and only one day that was blue bird. the katahdin shots are incredible. Schooled is last year's shot, also full on skiing but not quite as good as BFI. has a sequence in the Chic Chocs though which is worth the price alone.

my opinion is if WME won't come to new england and keeps making bland and boring movies with extreme amounts of product placement, screw WME. we now have a new england alternative, something i can actually associate with, you know? you never feel truely connected to these pro skiers doing first descents by heli. vicarious existance vs. shared experience, i'll take the shared experience.

Thanks for the info on ?Meathead films? as both films look good. It?s about time someone promoted the eastern ski scene. I agree at times hard to relate to WM scenes of being dropped out of a helicopter Their web page advises that ?Born from Ice ? will be available for purchase soon so if you can?t make it out to the showing ( which going by their schedule ,looks like every area is covered) you can always order it.

any ideas on what some of the "Meathead films" titles are? I read an article somewhere that they were doing a piece in mansfield backcountry, what up with that?
